Interviews
For me interviewing is actually connecting to the people, whether to find new information or to connect more with your target audience. You can ask somebody yes or no questions or let them tell their story. It can also include questionaires, surveys and other sorts of verbal or non-verbal ways of asking questions.
Prepare everything beforehand - what are the exact questions and topic(you might also need recording equipment or to create a document if it is online).

Don't forget the ice-breakers, which will make people feel more comfortable.

Let them speak even if they derive from your subject - it can lead to some interesting information you didn't think of.

Collect and review all of your data - analyse it and remove the unnecessary details.

When you want to connect to your target group.

When you need personal infromation from experience or stories. Or someone's opinion on a certain topic.

Reflection

I don't have the biggest experience with interviews, because I have done three, two of which were from the practices and one for my educational animation.

I enjoyed doing the later one, because I interview students in the academy and they were all really nice and friendly. I was a bit scared to approach people at first but then it got fun. My topic was "How people decide to make art?" and I even ued the interviews in my animation.

People like to share things about them and they like attention so it is easy to make them talk, but they start talking off subject quite ofter so you need to keep balance.
Here is a link to the animation:

The other two interviews inluded people from the street, which were more closed and some even didn't want to answer. That is why I believe it is really subjective whether you will be lucky with the people you talk to or not.
